WECT News : Riverdance to bring three 30th anniversary shows to the Wilson Center

Riverdance is set to perform three times at Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center as part of its 30th anniversary tour, according to CFCC. Per the college, Riverdance will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, and at 1:30 and 7:00 p.m. Feb. 16. “Since Riverdance first emerged on the world stage, its fusion of Irish and international dance and music has captured the hearts of millions worldwide,” the announcement states. “The Grammy® Award-winning music and the infectious energy of its mesmerizing choreography and breathtaking performances have left audiences in awe and established Riverdance as a global cultural sensation.

More than 20 members of Riverdance put on a show on the Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin yesterday morning ahead of 12-hour danceathon to raise money for a cancer charity. Each year, Riverdance announces the charity with which it will be partnering throughout the season and this year it has chosen Childhood Cancer Ireland. Nearing 11am yesterday, a unique show of gossamer blues and greens greeted passersby to mark the announcement. Patricia McColgan, sister of Riverdance director John McColgan, whose son was diagnosed with cancer as a child, said: “It’s just wonderful. Riverdance is such a powerful, hopeful expression of Irishness. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our kids to be involved with this. Some of them have been through some very tough times and it’s a fantastic celebration for them to be centre stage.”

The Irish dance troupe Riverdance is kicking off its 25th anniversary tour with Morgan Bullock, who made history by becoming the troupe’s first Black dancer. “For me, growing up as an Irish dancer and loving to go see Riverdance and Irish dance shows, I never saw anyone who looked like me, so it’s amazing that now I have the honor to be that for other dancers,” Bullock told Local 10 News.
