Mercury News : The Last Waltz at 40: What really happened at The Band’s legendary farewell concert?

For some of music’s best-known artists, Thanksgiving Day 1976 was anything but a restful holiday.

Instead it was a long, frenzied but ultimately triumphant day as the famed roots-rock act The Band came to San Francisco to perform its final concert at legendary promoter Bill Graham’s Winterland Ballroom. Dubbed “The Last Waltz,” the show featuring a who’s who of rock’s greatest artists would become one of the most famous concerts ever, in part because director Martin Scorsese recorded the event in his groundbreaking 1978 documentary of the same name.

The French musician released her debut ‘Chaleur Humaine’ in the UK in February, having originally issued the French edition in June 2014. Letissier appears on the cover of this week’s NME.
